The Port of Rotterdam is constantly developing. The Port of Rotterdam Authority is currently collecting data to develop vessels that sail independently.

The investigation takes place from a converted patrol ship; the ‘Floating Lab’. It is equipped with all necessary measuring equipment, cameras and sensors.

The aim? To gather more information, so that self-sailing vessels in the Port of Rotterdam become possible in the future.

The Port of Rotterdam Authority includes companies and educational institutions in its research. Captain AI. Is the first company to participate, they specialize in artificial intelligence.

With the advent of Floating Lab, it will also be possible to do research in how the sensors can be used on water and land to improve the infrastructure in the harbour even more!

Rotterdamse haven onderzoekt zelfstandig varende schepen

De Rotterdamse haven is volop in ontwikkeling. Havenbedrijf Rotterdam verzamelt momenteel data om zelfstandig varende schepen te ontwikkelen, zo laat het Havenbedrijf afgelopen donderdag weten.

Het onderzoek vindt plaats vanaf een omgebouwd patrouilleschip. Het laboratorium draagt de naam: ‘Floating Lab’ en is voorzien van alle nodige meetapparatuur, camera’s en sensoren.

Het doel? Het vergaren van informatie om uiteindelijk zelf varende schepen mogelijk te maken in de Rotterdamse haven.

Havenbedrijf Rotterdam betrekt in haar onderzoek o.a. bedrijven en onderwijsinstellingen. Captain AI. is het eerste bedrijf waarmee dit gebeurt, zij zijn gespecialiseerd in kunstmatige intelligentie.

Met de komst van Floating Lab wordt het o.a. mogelijk om ook onderzoek te doen naar hoe sensoren op het water en op de wal kunnen worden gebruikt om de infrastructuur in de haven nog slimmer te maken!
